Perinatal Mental Health survey for Rosie Maternity and Neonatal Voices

  • This survey was carried out in 2021 to assess the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on perinatal mental health and the requirements for perinatal mental health support.
  • The survey was circulated on social media, the Rosie website and at connectedlives.org and received 218 responses from mothers who had predominantly given birth between 2017 and 2021
  • The survey consisted of 12 questions, with both closed and open questions capturing service users’ views about anything they felt was important regarding perinatal mental health; and survey was not limited to service users who had accessed perinatal mental services and/or had a mental health diagnosis.

The following issues were identified as the most important ones to local survey respondents:

      1. Perinatal-related anxieties e.g. infant-feeding (14%)
      2. Depressive feelings (11.3%)
      3. Covid-19 related anxieties (10.7%
      4. Loneliness (10.5%)
      5. Birth trauma and/or neonatal care (9.3%)
      6. Pregnancy loss and neonatal bereavement (6.4%)
      7. Other anxieties e.g. financial (5.1%)
      8. Severe depression or severe anxiety disorder (4.2%)
      9. Parental relationships (e.g. separation) (3.9%)
      10. Medication support (3.6%)
