Annual and Permanent Traffic Count Sites
The Cambridgeshire County Council Policy & Insight team monitor traffic flows across the county using a series of permanent sensors and annually-scheduled surveys. The amount of data collected varies depending on the type of monitoring being used. This ranges from continuously-collected automatically-classified counts to annual single-day surveys.
The dashboard below shows the locations that are being monitored and provides details of the frequency and type of monitoring being undertaken. A list of the locations can be provided upon request by emailing policyandinsight@cambridgeshire.gov.uk.
Daily flows and high level trends at most of the data collection sites can be viewed through our suite of dashboards:
-
-
- Annual traffic survey data (the red, orange, yellow and green dots on the map) can be viewed in the Annual Traffic Survey Dashboard
- TagMaster cycle data (blue dots on the map) can be viewed in the Cycle Flows Dashboard . This equipment has been retired and no new data is available beyond March 2025.
- Tagmaster vehicle data (purple dots on the map) are historic sites that are inactive and no new data is available at these locations.
- VivaCity sensor data (pink dots on the map) can be viewed in the Traffic Flows Dashboard.
- CaPCAM survey data (black and brown dots on the map) is available upon request, see the charges section below.
-
Hourly flow data can be provided upon request (charges apply) – see the charges section below for more information.
Charges
Cambridgeshire County Council collect traffic data in a number of locations across Cambridgeshire, as shown on the traffic count sites map (see above). The types of data available are detailed further in the map tool and are summarised below alongside the charges for supplying these to external parties:
-
-
- Adhoc traffic survey data – captures the number of vehicles using a road or junction for a short period, typically 1-14 days (e.g. the CaPCAM surveys). This data is typically available in 15 or 30 minute intervals, is often classified by vehicle type and sometimes also provides vehicle speed information. £150+VAT per location.
- Annual traffic survey data – captures the number of vehicles using a road during a 1-2 day period in the Spring or Autumn each year. This data is available in 30-minute intervals from 7am-7pm and is classified by vehicle type. £150+VAT per dataset or £1,000+VAT for 10 datasets (a dataset captures data for 1 location during a single survey year).
- Permanent counter data – captures the number of vehicles using a road for many days each year using permanently installed equipment (e.g. VivaCity or TagMaster sensors). This data is available in different time intervals and is classified by vehicle type. Smaller requests (up to 14-days of data) are charged at £150+VAT per location. Larger requests (up to 1 year of data) are charged at £1,000+VAT per location.
