Ways to learn together
Including sharing places on training Learning Hub of useful articles, courses & sessions Intros and Links here (from learning fieldwork group)Opportunities to learn about being trauma informed
What is already on offer?Your employer
Seeking courses on being trauma informed at your place of work Many larger organisations and teams already offer trauma informed training. If you are employed in a larger organisation, it makes sense to check first, whether they offer such training, and enrol as soon as you can!Other places
However, training is available from a number of places, agencies, and partners, so it should always be possible to get at least an introduction. A few examples are listed on this page, which range in content, style, and length. By including links here, we hope this page will help everyone be able to quite quickly access some useful insights.Sharing learning opportunities
If you are running a course and have some spare places, you might want to offer them to colleagues across your organization, or to others across the system. Or you might want to find out about a particular topic and want to investigate possible training places on other organisations courses. This could all be arranged, but we need to set up a way of doing this without it becoming a major task for individuals. Maybe: Insert buttons: I have a trauma informed learning opportunity to offer” and “I want to find trauma informed learning”. Each button opens a form, setting out some key facts e.g. spaces needed / spaces available, date of learning event / outline or link to Eventbrite or such. Speak with “learn” fieldwork group and see how we could operate this.A “human library” of expertise and experience
Imagine being able to go to a library but instead of books on the shelves, there are people. Maybe someone who is an expert in a certain topic, or someone who has had experiences which you’d like to hear about and to understand better. This is the concept of a “human library”.
What might our trauma informed library look like?
For the Trauma Informed approaches being supported by Changing Futures Cambridgeshire & Peterborough, our human library focusses on the topic of trauma and multiple disadvantage. The library will be made up of people who are experts in their field – including people who have been through trauma or who have come through multiple disadvantage. This can include issues such as poverty, discrimination, homelessness, substance use, mental health problems, domestic abuse and criminality, as well as other things. It will include people who are employed or volunteer in each of these areas, who are willing to share their knowledge in their field, talking someone through the issue locally and how existing local systems work. What are we doing / can we do to set up the library?
We are considering how best to set up a library of expertise and experience. We would welcome people stepping forward to volunteer to be the “books”. We would also welcome your views on the proposed system we’d like to put in place to make the library work. Here are two notes we have drafted to set out a starting point…- Guidance for ‘readers’ (add link)
