Trauma Informed Toolkit: welcome

Trauma Informed Toolkit

Welcome

(page under construction)

…to the Cambridgeshire & Peterborough trauma informed toolkit!

This Toolkit focusses on creating a trauma informed system across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. It looks at what local partners and people with lived experience have agreed a trauma informed system is, and does. We have agreed that a trauma informed system:

  • Centres on the person
  • Adjusts to conditions
  • Moves together

These give the titles of the three pages in the Toolkit.

Why?

The Toolkit has been set up to provide resources, insights and materials to support a more trauma-informed approach by everyone, across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.

Who?

Developed through the work of a large network of people with lived experience, people employed by a number of agencies, people who volunteer and others, we are sharing some resources here, to guide and outline our work.

The Toolkit aims to benefit people who need services locally, particularly where agencies have to work together to provide those services – and to support the people delivering services who may also experience trauma as part of their working lives.

Although the work germinated because we became aware that for people facing multiple disadvantage, trauma informed approaches are universally helpful and ought to be part of all our activities.

What?

The pages include national and international examples of what trauma is, what it means to be trauma informed, and more local resources used at workshops to develop our understanding and relationships, to build a system which is more trauma informed. You can find out more about what we mean by a trauma informed system by browsing the three pages.

The information is not exhaustive – they may never be complete because we believe in a constant process of exploring, learning, reflecting and reviewing – at every step adding to our understanding and sharing what we have picked up.

We have also agreed on our ways of “bee-ing”. People in the trauma informed network are:

  • Aspirational
  • Bold
  • Flexible & adaptable
  • Persistent
  • Open and reflective in our communications
  • Open to difference
  • Open to innovation learning & growth
  • Open to and appreciative of people with lived experience.

Using the toolkit

At the top of each of its four pages you can find you way back to this “welcome” page  or any of the other pages by clicking on one of the four buttons. And at the bottom of each page there are buttons to encourage you to get involved or to in touch and share your insights – these can feed into our local approach, so we build our knowledge & understanding together.

We have identified that people all learn very differently, so we have tried to use a range of approaches on these pages – some videos, some reading, some TED style talks, some pictures, some web links to other sites. We hope by using a variety of approaches, everyone can benefit.

To keep the pages short, we’ve included links to other documents and included some videos, so you can explore a topic further if it tickles your fancy. However you should be able to get some insight without visiting the links.
