Community Safety Research Resources

We use a range of resources in our research. Some of these are open data sources (publically accessible) and others have restricted access.  Below you will find links to a range of open data sources that we use often.

The Crime Survey of England and Wales (CSEW)

Formally known as the British Crime Survey, this survey uses the responses of households and individuals on a range of issues.  It provides insight into attitudes towards crime, perceptions of crime and safety, estimates of the magnitude of under-reported crimes.

Police Data

Data and maps of criminal incidents by type and local authority for England Wales and Northern Ireland, down to street level, is available from the following website.

Office of National Statistics

The Office of National Statistics (ONS) has a huge range of data available from a range of sources, including census data from population figures to breakdowns in dwelling numbers and types, and statistics on the types of vehicles people drive.

We also provide an RSS feed to the ONS Crime data updates accessible here.
